Katie Holmes has been approached to take a role in the next "Sex And The City" film.

The wife of Tom Cruise has shied away from movies while she concentrates on bringing up their two-year-old daughter Suri.

But studio chiefs are hopeful they will get her to play a feisty New York businesswoman in the follow-up to the 2008 smash.

A source told me: "The character they want her to play is a really ballsy, high-powered company executive who tangles with Samantha."

Shooting begins this autumn, with a release expected in May next year.
