Katie Holmes “doesn’t know” if she’s moved past her "Dawson’s Creek" days.
The 36-year-old rose to fame as Joey Potter in the hit teen drama. And while she has gone on to star in big movies such as "Batman Begins" and "The Giver," she still thinks of that period of time in her life and career with great fondness.
“I don’t know if I have moved past it, but I don’t really care,” she confessed to Elle Canada. “I had a ball doing it, and it’s really nice to be a part of something that did affect people. And it created a lot of opportunities for all of us.”
Katie appeared alongside James Van Der Beek, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams in the series. They have all gone on to have continued success, with Michelle winning a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in 2011 film "My Week with Marilyn."
Katie went on to have a high-profile marriage to Tom Cruise. The couple had daughter Suri, eight, but divorced in July 2012 after nearly six years.
As well as her romantic life, her career has had some ups and downs.
“Sometimes offers are flying in, and sometimes they’re not,” she admitted, “There aren’t as many movies being made, period, so the challenge is to create projects for yourself.”
With this in mind, Katie is making her directorial debut on "All We Had," a mother-daughter story based on Annie Weatherwax’s first novel.
Katie is producing the film with Jane Rosenthal while "The Fault In Our Stars" director Josh Boone is adapting the screenplay from the book, which was published by Scribner in August.
“I am very excited and honoured to be collaborating with Jane and Josh on this project and look so forward to bringing Annie’s incredible characters to the screen,” Katie said in a statement released to Deadline at the time of the announcement in September.
