The Girl Next Door
Katie Holmes loves her 'big life'
By Lorena Blas
At 28, Katie Holmes is about to enter "a new chapter. I am a bit wiser now."
The mother of Suri, 19 months, and wife of Tom Cruise, 45, explains, "I feel I really lived my 20s, and I'm happy about that."
Holmes opens up in January's In Style, on newsstands Friday. And some of her famous friends and colleagues chime in. She is "very strong, a very solid citizen curious and adventurous," says Diane Keaton, Holmes' co-star in the comedy/thriller Mad Money (in theaters Jan. 18). "She wants and is having a very big life. And she's handling it with such grace."
As for how she got to that very big life, Holmes fans her face and tells In Style she first met Cruise in a work meeting, "and my god, whew, whew."
She continues, "It happened in an instant. When you fall in love, it's as if time stops. It's all-encompassing."
Fast-forward from the whirlwind courtship, engagement, baby announcement and then wedding in November 2006: Holmes is now a working actress with a toddler at home. "Nowadays, Suri is talking up a storm," Holmes says. "She loves coloring and creating. She's a great mimic and dancer."
As for whether she and Cruise will have more children (he has daughter Isabella, 14, and son Connor, 12, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman), Holmes says: "I'd love to. But I'm in no particular rush. We're enjoying our time right now."
