On Tuesday, the film festival announced its slate for the Midnight and Spotlight sections of the event, as well as the Centerpiece film.
“The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea,” also starring Jessica Biel and Maisie Williams, will be the opening-night Spotlight film, while “Elvis & Nixon,” co-starring Michael Shannon and directed by Liza Johnson, will be this year’s Centerpiece film. The Midnight section will open with the horror anthology, “Holidays.” In total, the Spotlight section features 36 films, with 25 films having world premieres at the festival. The Midnight section is comprised of six world premieres.
“Our Spotlight section features world premieres with a range of talent and topics that are timely and entertaining,” said Genna Terranova, the festival director. “Many of this year’s films address pivotal moments in our everyday lives and culture that leave us with a renewed sense of hope.”
The tenth annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival opens on April 14 with the world premiere of the documentary, “This Magic Moment,” chronicling the Orlando Magic in the 1990s.
