Katie "Can't Wait" For 6/9!

On June 9th, actress to participate in nation’s largest all-you-can-eat ice cream event.

Actress Katie Holmes, currently co-starring in the Broadway smash hit “All My Sons” with John Lithgow, Patrick Wilson and Dianne Weist, says she plans to attend this year’s Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl in Boston on June 9, 2009 – presented annually by FedEx on Boston’s City Hall Plaza.

“I’ve always loved ice cream, and I can never resist an all-you-can-eat ice cream event – especially one that benefits charity,” the star shyly confided to fellow “All My Sons” cast members who attended her backstage 30th birthday celebration this past week -- complete with five-layer birthday cake sent by husband Tom Cruise. "I just can't wait!"

The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl is the nation's largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival. The event serves up ice cream from 11 of the nation's leading ice cream companies while raising money for the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The 2008 Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl raised more than $345,000, bringing the 26-year total to more than $2 million.

The Scooper Bowl features more than 40 flavors of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet, sorbet, and gelato from Ben & Jerry's, Breyers, Brigham's, Cold Stone Creamery, Doriti Gelati, Edy's, Elan Frozen Yogurt, Garelick Farms/Giffords, Haagen-Dazs, and HP Hood.

“It's hard to believe that the Scooper Bowl started in 1983 with just 3 vendors charging only a $1 for an all you can eat ice cream extravaganza,” said Holmes.

Originally the New England Dairy Festival, students were sent to learn about dairy products and their nutritional value whilst “getting totally high on sugar,” says Holmes.

“Yeah, I don't think I learned much about dairy except for what 14 cups does to your body,” joked Holmes, a frequent Scooper Bowl attendee in past years

“I thought that was an amazing feat until my friend Kathy said she downed 30 cups last year. FAIL.”

According to Holmes, last year’s flavors included Ben and Jerry's Cheesecake Brownie and Imagine Whirled Peace; Breyer’s Cookies and Cream; Brigham's Quack Tracks and Coconut Almond Fudge; Cold Stone's Founder's Favorite and Shock-a-Cone; Doriti Gelati's Mango Gelato; Edy's Birthday Cake and Orange Cream Sherbet; Elan Fro Yo's Black Raspberry and Coffee; Garlick Farms/Gifford's World's Best Chocolate and Maine Lobster Tracks; Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Honey Bee and Raspberry Sorbet; and Hood's Light Martha's Vineyard Black Raspberry and Bear Creek Caramel.

Holmes’ husband Tom Cruise is currently starring in the film “Valkyrie,” to be released on Christmas Day. "Valkyrie," based on a true story, takes place at the height of World War Two, and recounts how a group of high-ranking German officers hatched a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler and seize power of the military command in order to end the war.

Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Carice Van Houton, Terrance Stamp and Eddie Izzard co-star in the Bryan Singer-directed epic.
