Katie Holmes: ‘My Family Inspires Me’

When Katie Holmes showed up to "The Extra Man" premiere held Monday in NYC, she was a vision of confidence yet approachable in every way. Wearing a red-and-navy striped Celine dress with a simple gold necklace and eye-catching diamond rings, Katie crinkled her nose often and even winked after saying “thank you” when she headed into the screening.

Something about her reminds me of a Raggedy Ann doll.

Perhaps that’s because the actress, 31, who wed Tom Cruise in 2006, is mom to daughter Suri, 4, who has become a celebrated fashion icon in her own right.

Of her family, Katie said, “Every day my husband inspires me. My family inspires me. My daughter inspires. We’re always sort of creating new things whether it’s a party, or a script or a movie. We try to have a very creative household.”

Will Suri follow in the footsteps of her famous folks?

“I know that she can do whatever she wants and she’ll be great at it.”

Katie doesn’t take her family life for granted.

What’s the best thing about being a mom?

“Everything. I’m very lucky.”

Indeed, watching Suri grow up is a “spectacular” experience, she confides.

Co-star Paul Dano gives Tom and Katie high marks after starring back-to-back with Tom in "Knight and Day" and Katie in this film.

“Katie’s the sweetest woman,” he says. “She’s super kind and generous and we got along right away, luckily. Tom is one of the hardest-working dudes I’ve ever met. To still be going that hard when you’ve done so much is admirable. He’s not a jaded dude. He’s a serious, hard worker.”

Mom duty calls. Katie jetted out of NYC shortly after the screening began, and stars including Paul, Kevin Kline, Victoria’s Secret supermodel Doutzen Kroes and pregnant Rachel Dratch headed to Vapiano for the afterparty.

"The Extra Man" is in theaters July 30.
