Katie Holmes is in the headlines again, but this time not for the rumors that constantly swirl around her relationship with hubby Tom Cruise.
The actress will replace Liv Tyler, who bowed out for undisclosed reasons, as the lead in the indie flick "The Romantics."
Variety reports that Holmes, whose film career has languished since her 2006 marriage to Cruise, will also executive produce the star-studded film featuring Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong.
The movie's plot centers on eight college friends who reunite for the wedding of Lila, played by Paquin. Holmes's character Laura is the maid of honor, who shares a romantic past with the groom.
The movie begins shooting this week in New York City.
The actress, whose most recent big screen appearances include the forgettable "Mad Money," and "Batman Begins," in which she got panned, has recently wrapped the comedy "The Extra Man" and the thriller "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," due out in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
