Producer Jeff Bridges has given us an inside look into the upcoming film adaptation of Lois Lowry's "The Giver" that features Taylor Swift, Katie Holmes, Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites and more!

Here's a description of the film:

"In a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the 'real' world."

The movie is a big screen adaptation of the novel with Philip Noyce back in the director's chair. "The Giver" is the first feature film for Noyce since "Salt," while Michael Mitnick has adapted the novel into a screenplay.

Jeff Bridges has reportedly been trying to make Lowry's 1993 classic "The Giver" into a film for nearly 20 years. In that time, Lowry's kids became adults and his father Lloyd, who he'd wanted to play the Giver, died. He has received rejection after rejection from everybody until film producer Harvey Weinstein came on board.

"He said, yeah let's go man," laughed Bridges, who took on the role of the Giver and is serving as a producer on the film, which recently wrapped its shoot in Cape Town.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Australian newbie Brenton Thwaites plays Jonas, "a boy living contentedly in a seemingly perfect community of sterilized, controlled 'sameness' till he is assigned to receive all the memories of history - sublime and evil alike - from the Giver,"

"The past is considered to be potentially polluting," director Phillip Noyce said. "This is a world where complications are eliminated. Jonas himself goes on a journey as he finds out what's missing. He starts to investigate what's causing it. And that's the beauty. That's what makes the book so popular, it's an investigation in ways of living."

"The Giver" is slated for release on Aug. 15.
